looking to breed my cali kings

sandfireman Mar 29, 2004 10:36 PM

Hey all,
I have a male cali king who is ready to breed this year. i have a smaller female who is about 2 foot long and is about a year and a fourth old. I have only been feeding her about one large fuzzy a week, becuz when i got her i wasnt realy planning on breedind. But since that I am able to now i want to start puttin the pounds on her. If i feed her approperetly this year do you think I can get her big enough to breed in the 2005 spring?? If so what should I up her up her to on her feeding schedule? For the past few weeks i have been giving her about 2 to 3 small fuzzies per week, all in one feeding. She already is lookin fatter. Also, this will be the first time breeding any kind of snkae so I'm wondering where do you smaller breeders sell your babies to? I'm not realy in it for the money but if i could make my money back it would be nice. Whats the going rate for baby cal kings from a small time breeder to be like me?? Sorry about the long post. Thanks chris

Ok, if you wish to sell babies, just purchase a Kingsnake.com classifieds account. Did you ever hear that you shouldn't rush a snake to get bigger, just so it could be able to breed? Just forget about breeding it in 2005. By getting it to mating size by then you would have to overfeed it, which is unhealthy for the snake, let it grow naturally.
