Hey guys just wanted to ask a quick question about your salvators. How much humidity do you guys keep your slavators at? I am getting a pair of those Marmoratus babies later this week in and was wondering their ideal humidity levels? This is my first Indo species so i want it to work out kinda nervous but excited because theyre so damn good looking. This is a temporary thing because i dont think itll be a real issue when i move to fl.

thanks alex

Look at keeping humidity from 70 to 90%. This has worked well for mine. I also offer a large tub for swimming as they love to soak and swim around. LOL not that they can swim laps or anything.

Keep the cage somewhat of a clutter, the young waters don't care to much for being out in the open. I know of someone that had his setup this way and was having bad luck. He then changed the cage to more of a jungle setup and they calmed down, and have been little pigs ever since. I have 2 babies here right now that I am raising.

I also setup the new togian the sameway. He has proven to like it. He is already taking food from tongs and eating right in front of me.

Good luck with your new recruits.

Thanks dude, are your babies that you are raising cb? these little guys are cb so i think the stress factor would be a less of a worry ? I dont know because my goulds and ackies never stress, but i dig the jungle theme idea and will go on that. GLad to hear your togianus is doing good really a nice animal.

Haha well yeah right sold as c.b. but you know how that goes. That goes right up next to farm hatched.

Atleast you know yours are. But yeah they will be less likely to be stressed, but they will still like to hide. Mine are not so stressed, they come out for food, eat in front of me, let me handle them. They just prefer a good ol jungle looking messy setup to a wide open cage.

Just ask Ral how his is doing. He got one of the 3 off of me after I got them in settled down, and being pig's.

Hey Alex. I agree with everything Jody says. Here's a couple of pics of the enclosure for my two little ones (actually not so little anymore). I use good ol' Florida dirt for the substrate and that has proven to hold humidity and burrows well. They love to dig! Good luck with your new pair! Billy

Pic of the outside. This is an old pic and the interior has been significantly changed as you can see on the other pics.

Thanks for the pics billy they helped out alot. Do you plan on keeping your salvators outside once they get older and bigger?

I am moving to fl soon so ill get to put that florida dirt to use.

thanks alex

BillyBoy Mar 30, 2004 12:15 PM

Hey Alex. I am not 100% sure I will keep them outside. Mostly depends on the next house I buy. Ideally, I will keep them inside in their own room or half-room completely built out just for them. That makes things easier to control as far as temps and humidity. Once you get down, we can all get together and talk about monitors like the reptile geeks we are! I'm right in Delray, so if you end up in Boca we'll be neighbors! Best of luck with your new little ones. Billy

hi,
i dont have humidity gauges in all my cages, but i spray water when i need to. my substrate holds moisture and its obviously humid in the air. a good test for me is to try to take a picture with my digital camera without the lens fogging up. if its not fogging the lens, then my humdity might be low. the top of my substrate is dry, but deeper levels are damp. had too much humidity at one point because these salvators tipped 1 too many water containers, saturating everything. now, i have custom container holders attached to the walls to keep water bowls stationary. i hear proper(?) levels are 85% and up. do a google search for weather in luzon for current temps and relative humidity. honestly, your not in luzon so dont sweat that stuff. its what you do in-house that matters. -john
