Like I said the other day, I feel like you guys are treating this like a chat room instead of forum. Maybe the difference is obvious to me, but I can understand where it might not other people.
Many of us take pride in the forum, myself included. I’m very grateful to those who have helped me in the past, and truly enjoy helping and sharing information when I can. So I think you can understand that I take offence when someone comes here and doesn’t use proper forum etiquette.
Spelling isn’t a big deal to me, neither is grammar. I’ll receive my bachelor’s degree in a month, and I still can’t spell, but I know how to use Word, and it’s spellchecker.
I think one big problem is people don’t spend the time to read the post after they type it and make sure it makes sense, before hitting that submit button. Overuse of caps is bad, caps lock is just wrong and unreadable. Flooding, trolling, spamming, slander: all very bad. Spend some time on your posts; this place is only as good as we make it.
The reason I don’t like the flooding we’ve seen recently is because it detracts from other people’s posts. Someone’s legitimate questions and answers will get washed off the page by chit-chat.
If you want instant gratification, you need to use an instant messaging service or chat room. I’d direct you to the IRC server arena.webchat.org, there you will find the chat channel #LeopardGeckos. It’s a good place to hang out and chat.
I’m not a moderator, I’m not going to go on a rant and report everything I don’t feel is polite or anything like that. I’m not the forum police; I’m just trying to point out what’s cool and what’s not. Sorry to jump on the soapbox, I’m sure it needed to be said.
