(Non) eating habits of my adult Leo

Sweex Mar 30, 2004 02:32 AM

Hey guys 'n gals!

Everything has been going fine with my leo ever since I've got him. He's almost two years old now, and seems to be doing fine. But over the last 6 months or so, he has been eating less and less. Where he used to eat up to 4 crickets a day, he now might eat just one a week! As a result, he (obviously) barely poops.

I'm not too afraid that anything is wrong as he doesn't seem to loose weight and is quite active when I take him out of his enclosing.

So now my questions. Is this completely normal? Does he simply not eat a lot when he's fullgrown? How much do your leos of similar age eat?

Many thanks in advance!

.Mike.

If you have just been feeding him crix he might be tired of them and you might have to try mealworms and superworms.

I know and I've tried mealies in the past. He didn't touch em even after a couple of days.

What I really wanted to know whether it is normal, or that he really should eat more.

he should eat more. 1 cricket a week is not enough.

I am going through the same problem. No change in husbandry or even leo behavoir, but our girl went from eating 10 mealworms a day to maybe 2 every 10 days. I took her to the vet this morning, had Xrays and the works. He said she was perfectly healthy, very active, and no internal problems that he could see. Her weight was good, and he said she was not even close to bad shape. He said try something other than mealworms, but currently I have nothing to worry about. As long as they continue to act as before, you don't notice any new quirks and the weight is maintaining then you are good. Our girl poops just fine, but very rarely because she doesn't eat. She drinks lots of water and licks the calcium. The Xray showed that her bones were excellent.
