She is digging

ecb Mar 30, 2004 07:46 AM

one hole
her belly is VERY soft/flacid almost
nothing lumpy in there
she is just out of shed, and she is VERY acively seeking heat
the ROOM is 74-6 degrees, the tank is 79 on the cold side (actually the middle)
and 86 on the hotter side, and 82-4 on the less hot, but more humid side
and she is STILL going down to the feeding dish (right above the heat pad) at night when the lights go off, and right up to the light, or directly under the light when its on

She does go on the brach in the cold area, but only for short times
she does not go in the water unless I put her there, but when I do she dances in it, and scrapes her shed areas, and drinks, and stays to soak for 25-45 min (over an hour once)

her color is staying brown, I bairly EVER see ANY green, like I did right after I first got her (I miss the green)

I do not like the tank being SO hot all over

Maybe I should make the midzone (red light) on the dry side (plant side), and the Hot side over the water (there are branches to sit on over there) then the cool side (the middle)might be more cool.
I could get my Eldest daughter to help me pick up the whole tank and move the heating pad to the end of the dirt closest to the "Pool" or do away with it all together

That way the humid parts will also be the warmest, and I will not worry about the heat drying her out so much

but will she stay on the plant side because that is her "Territory?"

Man oh man, this is hard work. Will it be easier when I have the Full reptarium I M looking to get? Or harder

In my opinion, it'll be harder once you have the reptarium because it's harder to use a heating pad and the humidity escapes more. Be sure to get something to cover the outside of it with to insulate.

Yeah, I M looking to maybe get some thin insulation to seal the outside and keep the heat in.
I cannot keep these guys in such a small tank
5'x 4'x 2' or 3' is what I want
Wish I could get them to custom make the bottom, I have an idea for water and drainage of Soil Substrate, but its nowhere NEAR as severe a change as those Turtle tank peoples (but it is a little similar to their idea)
but mine would involve a slight slant to the land side, and a 2-4" Border with holes to facilitate drainage of Overflow water into the Pool
the access inlet for the Filter would have to be under the ramp at one end, and a Jet pump at the other end of the ramp so the water circulates (less sedimentation)
Maybe there is NO WAY this would work, but its the best way can figure to get it to work well

Gads I hope she lays some eggs. I know that by the third or forth clutch it can be hard to tell.

If that's the case she should start eating again too. I really hope that's it and her loss of appetite will be over!

She is draping herself over the hole she has dug
Like she did before in the Pic
and she is eating 2 Earthworms/Nightcrawlers

and I M feeding the Snaller earthworms to the babies by opening the dish, shaking them up, and then putting a baby on the dirt on the dirt in the dish
then they pick from the Buffet (That way they do not have to Chew through the end of the Nightcrawlers I have for Erowen)

They are not eating any of the Mealworms. But they do hunt the beetles (wierd, I thought the beetles were bitter?)
