How long after stopping force feeding for them to eat?

hhhsbandmom Mar 30, 2004 09:38 AM

I've been force feeding baby food to my male lizard (approx. 1 yr old) for almost two weeks now. He has been wormed and has been on chloro somthing kind of anitbiotics which I have been giving him twice a day with a syringe. Thursday is his last day on the antibiotics. He seems to be better but so far has shown no interest in the crickets we put in his cage so we take them out. Since I have been force feeding him, I wasn't too surprised that he wasn't interested. Anyhow, after I finish with the antibiotics on Thursday I want to try to stop force feeding too. How long does it take them to start eating again after stopping the baby food? I don't want to get freaked out if he doesn't eat for 4-5 days and that is normal? Any guesses/suggestions? He was captive bred and ate crickets/waxies just fine before getting sick.

4 or 5 days will be fine. Just keep an eye on him. It may be stressful for you to be in the room with him while eating. Try puting some worms in a dish, or some crickets and leave him be for a while.

It's best to get him off the handfeeding though...it can be a pain in the neck!
