Can a leopard gecko make noise?

nimmerfroh Mar 30, 2004 09:49 AM

As a new owner of a leo I was wondering if they make any sounds? I thought maybe if they're comfortable in captivity and not stressed they'll never utter a peep, or do they makes sounds in the wild maybe when threatened?

The first time I heard it, I couldn't believe it. They can screach and squeel like a pig! LOL!! They really only "yell" when they're scared.

Hi

They can make a little bit of a sound, but only if something is extremely bothering them, of which is kind of rar.

Pretty much everyday I hear her make a squawk.. sometimes when she's in her hide, sometimes just when she's walking around... She's never under any amount of stress at the times, so i don't think it's a bad thing... she must be more vocal than most.. and when i pick her up or do something that could potentially annoy her (like spray her humid hide with her in it), she doesnt make noise....

Yes, they make a variety of sounds ranging from screeches to barks, chuffs and breathy clicks and whistles.

They almost whisper clicks and whistles to each other to communicate, and my male will sometimes bark/chuff to get attention (i.e. hey my food bowl is empty, or, hey pick me up I'm bored, etc).

However, some geckos go through their entire lives without making a peep...

I'd love to hear how they "scream" or "screech" if anyone can get a sound byte together.

The best person to get one from would be Nicole, about three posts above, since she said hers does it everyday.

plus she does it at so many different intervals a day,i never know when she does it.... sometimes i wake up to her squawk, and turn the light on, but she's just playin by herself

That's cute. If I could get mine to make a noise I'd record and transfer it onto my pc but she's very quiet and I don't think I want to scare her to death just to get a sound byte I'll listen closely at feeding time tonight, maybe she'll chirp a little.
