Demand for BRB?

jjnnbns Mar 30, 2004 10:12 AM

Hey everyone,

I usually check out the classifieds on this site but usually don't post in the forums. I am, however, curious about how much of a demand there is for BRBs. I know that a few breeders post here and I always love their opinions, and am wondering if I will have a problem finding homes for the new babies of these two beautiful BRBs of mine.

Oh, the year after I will also have high yellow JCPs!

Here are a few pics of my BRBs

Those first four are the male, and here is the female:

I think that they are beautiful, and can't wait to breed them!

Lemme know what you think of these and if you think that I would be able to find good homes for their babies!

Thanks,
Brent

Nice BRB's man, really sweet colors. I've always been under the impression that BRB's are pretty popular animals. I'm no expert on herp trends though...

But I am not clear on what you are actually asking. Are you wondering if you could sell your offspring to a wholesaler? If so I would say certainly. If you want to sell them retail by advertising I still would say certainly, but how long it takes will depend on your price and how much time/hassle you are willing to put into the process. I bred for the first time in '02 so I had babies that I wholesaled in July '03. I had no trouble selling them at all. In fact it was so easy I think it may have been beginner's luck.

Yours should be red, mine were not. Most of the replies from potential purchasers wanted red and offered more $ for them. I had mine sold to a supplier that I heard from a friend didn't like to send out a check on time so I opted to take their advice and go with another company who actually paid more.I am not certain what I should do this year with potential offspring, I may try to sell them (if I have any) through classifieds and locally. Since money isn't my biggest concern, I haven't made a decision yet.

So ultimately I think it all depends on what you expect from them and why you have them in the first place and how much effort or time you can put into the whole seller process.

Personally, I think your m/f are very nice and I think you'll sell them before I'll sell mine.

Linda

Brent,
. There is a big demand for baby Brazilian Rainbow Boas. I easily sell all that I produce. There is no better feeling than to have someone tell you that they have a snake that they got from you several years ago and it is now a big beautiful healthy pet. Well actually, it is even better when they tell you that your baby has grown up with them and is now a proven breeder. There are a few things to consider about selling or giving away your babies though. Unless you live in a very large city and network with lots of other snake keeping enthusiasts you will probably not be able to find good homes for an entire litter locally. BRBs are just difficult enough to keep that they are not the kind of snake that you can put into the hands of the kid down the street and expect him to provide adequate care. Because of this you have to either take the babies to a large reptile show or advertise them nationally. Travel to a show and expenses for a table and hotel costs can cut a big piece out of the money you will get for the babies. If you advertise them for sale on the kingsnake.com classifieds, which is the very best place to advertise you have to pay for an account. When you advertise snakes for sale you will get loads of emails asking all sorts of questions. Many of the people sending emails and asking questions will take up your time and not buy your snakes. I have exchanged as many as a dozen emails with potential buyers and even had them say the check was on the way and they never sent anything. Dealing with people can be tiresome. When you do make a sale you will have to ship the snakes. Shipping snakes can be a hassle. I have had some shipping experiences that were less than satisfactory. Shippers seem to hire lots of good people and some people who do not seem to care about providing good service. They will sometimes mishandle or misdeliver your snakes. I use package tracking everytime I ship and spend time making sure my babies get safely delivered. It takes time and phone calls to straighten out shipping errors.
Good Luck,
Jeff

As with most anything attitude has alot to do with "outcomes"
The supply is catching up with the demands on many breeds of snakes. The ones that were once trying to get $200 are settling for $150 and the same for those in the $150 dropping to $100.
If your not trying to earn your living by breeding snakes then dropping under the High and Mighty`s will ensure a fast turn/return on your coinage.Selling to wholesale places that have no concern for a snakes well bieng outside of staying alive until shipped wouldnt do you much good knowing how things actually go in this trade concerning volume trades/transactions of Herps.
