Any good caresheet recomendations?

ew1074 Mar 30, 2004 11:50 AM

My cousin bought 2 red eared sliders for her daughters for Christmas and they havnt even looked at them hardly. I keep alot of animals so she automatically called me up and wants me to take them. I didnt even know she had them, i dont know what they are keeping them in or what they've been through. I have no turtles but do have other reptiles. I need to learn all i can about them but i'm not expecting anyone here to list all the basics. But a good caresheet would be nice. I'm having trouble finding one, and the ones i do find all have contradicting info. I dont know if i'll take them or not but its either that or they get released. I know nothing about them. Not a thing. This was very sudden. Any links to a decent caresheet? Thanks alot!

I'll try and list everything I have learned about them in a quick list:

First they need to have water, they LOVE to swim! if you look around on this website you can find some really good pictures of some peoples tanks! the turtles also need to have somewhere where they can come out of the water (basking area). The water needs to be in the 70's (temperature wise) and the basking spot about 85 degrees or so! to keep their water cleaner, you can feed them in a seperate container to cut down on waste in the water! You will need a filter and heater for the water. and a heat light for the basking spot.

they eat the reptomin sticks, but this shouldnt be the ONLY thing they are fed. they should have some choice of water plants, feeder fish, and veggies. (mine like cut up carrots)you don't need to feed them everyday. some people feed them the sticks about every other day or even less, but they always have vegetation available! you can also feed them earthworms! (mine love these as a snack!)

you should also get a cuttle bone (bird) and break it up.you can put some pieces of this in the water for them to eat. the calcium is good for them!

this is all i can remember as of now. if you have any more questions... just ask! i try not to bite! haha but if i cant answer your questions, im sure someone can! there are very intelligent people on this forum!

~ Good luck with your new additions!

Try www.AustinsTurtlePage.com or www.RESOasis.com
Do your research, RES can get huge and require a big investment.
