Skin problem

Chris S. Mar 30, 2004 11:56 AM

Hello there!

Today I found my 4 year old female had developed some strange skin markings on her belly side. It doesn't look like parasites, but what can it be? Her living conditions haven't changed, and the male that lives with her doesn't have this problem. Is it an infection?

Do you have any idea what I can do?

Thank you

Chris

I'm wondering if she could be being brutalized by a horny male? See if her neck has a lot of nicks in it. Perhaps she is turning over to avoid mating, and is getting bitten on her tummy. Strange thought, I've never seen that before.

And under tail base, the slit area is that also redened, it appears darkened to me, like something is going on there also!
All of my females just look flat and clear skinned in that area.

She looks swollen and darkened color, like irratation or something!

What does it look like to you, when you veiw the area??

The male is either attacking her or maybe shes getting ripped on something in with them.

Got damage from something thats for sure ! Very weird!

it looks a bit like a burn, and being on the protruding ribcage part of the collareds body, this would support that theory. Also from what i can make out,is that enlarged vent scales?heres your pic resized with the scales i can or cannot see,if that is enlarged scales then maybe it's 2 males you have 2gether??!Either way, only you can confirm for us.hope all turns out well for you and your collared

Thank you for your ideas so far!

First, I'm sure it is a female, she has laid eggs before...

You're right, Eve, the slit area doesn't look good, but it's no blood, I think. It only looks somehow "dirty".

Like some of you I suspect it could be some injuries caused by the male. He seems to be very "horny" and I watched him catching her byting her neck when she tried to escape. I never watched him byting the other side, but do you think he may be strong enough to drag her across the floor when she tries to escape, causing the injuries this way? He's a big guy!

In this case they should be kept separately, or is there another way?

Thanks

Chris

female Hopi all over, when she is not receptive.

I have a pic of what he did to her last year after her 2nd clutch. He was very persistant and she had just laid, and was not into it !

He showed EXTREME sexual aggression, she tried to roll over and he apparently just kept biting her underside and leg. If you click my name up top of post, I will send you the pic, you can see for yourself what they can do.

I have since kept that male seperate.

As far as the area where it is dark or dirty looking, under tail put some neosporin or vasiline there and see what happens !

Although, if you use sand like me, she will get that stuck on her !!

I would put neosporin on all those places, that look bloody, or red.

May want to seperate her for awhile to see if it stops.
