Dehydrated Leopard Gecko

RBruder Jun 12, 2003 08:09 PM

I bred my female leos to my males like I do every year and the females, who were at optimal weight, layed very well for me this season. Except for one girl. She laid but she got very weak and brittle. I beleive that this was do to dehydration because she had a sufficient amount of D3 during egg laying. She is now re-couping but she looks very small and dehydrated. What can I do to help her out. She wont eat any crix and I dont think she is strong enough to eat a pinkie. Any advice would be great! Thank you very much.

Leos generally don't get dehydrated unless they are deprived of water or have parasites or something else that causes diarrhea. I think you should take her to a vet. Drops of pedialyte on her nose won't hurt. What do her stools look like? Are they runny? Does she have fresh water at all times? Calcium? Food?

Yes she has water at all times. Food is offered every other day to her. IT might be a parasite but I have 40 other leos and none of them show signs. Her stool appears normal. It cold be that she is just sick. Could it be overheating?

Any Advice would be great thanks

And does she have access to a dish of powdered calcium at all times? Calcium is essential for all leos, especially young leos and breeding females, to avoid MBD and keep them healthy.

Well, yes she did have calcium availible, but today I came in and found her deceased. One thing strange on her was a green patch that just showed up post-mortem. Anything?

Thanks
