This little guy was found today buried in some pine needles...

Location: North Alabama

Very blurry... sorry...

Excuse the crappy pics!

He looks very racer-ish. Black, with a grey pattern that slowly fades to nothing twords his tail. Very pretty coppery spots on his underside.... fiesty little guy.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Charlotte

Without looking it up I would say that in N. Alabama you have the Southern Black Racer Coluber constrictor priapus. The babies look totally different from the adults and that one looks like he is young of the year in the process of losing his juvenile pattern. Cute little fellow...

Than again it might be the Northern Black Racer Coluber constrictor constrictor. Or something in between the two depending where it came from. Thats what I get for not looking before I speak!
