North Pacific Rattlesnake - C. v. oreganus...

C. Elmer Jun 12, 2003 08:16 PM

I took the opportunity of a couple days off this week to scoot on over to Eastern Washington overnight for a quick herping trip. Even we didn't even get there until 3:00 in the afternoon, and had to leave at 7:30 the next day we still had a great time. Snakes weren't exactly jumping out in front of us but we did find a rather large garter, a roadkill (unfortunately) pacific gopher snake, and the highlight, a gorgeous 2 1/2' North Pacific Rattler (the main reason for my trek over there). Took quite a bit of digging to get that guy out of his hole! I'm already planning another trip over the summer, and plan on visiting a couple favorite spots as well as some new places. Enjoy the pics!

P.S. I was hoping to get better pics of the little guy, but he was angry enough to where he wanted to run away at any chance, but not quite angry enough to stand his ground and pose for us. Oh well, there's always next time.

Rad find. I was over there a bit ago but we were just driving through back from idaho. Although we did stop for pictures right at where you took the bottom pics. Wish I could of stopped to do a bit o' herpin.
