okay, i'm really confused. i was told to use a regular white light bulb during the day for leo. now i'm hearing i shouldn't be using a white bulb during the day for heating the tank. am i supposed to use the white bulb or not, or does it not matter. any help is appreciated.

a regular light bulb is fine during the day, however it may get to cool in the tank at night.

if all you are using it for is daytime heat, any bulb of appropriate wattage will do.

i'm getting an UTH this weekend so lighting wont be my only source of heat i was just concerned that the white light would bother her too much. thanks for the suggestions.

The higher the wattage, the more power bill will be. For such small enclosures as 10-20 gallon you probably only need a 40-60 watt bulb.

A 150 watt light bulb run continuously costs about $0.50 for 10 hours. Just take that into consideration.

Heat tape is much more efficient because you can raise the temperature tremedously with only 15-20 watts. Remember watts is simply the rating of power.

Also, though I know this will be fought, UV lights are very helpful in all animals. UV and the production of vitamin D are beneficial to almost every living thing and stimulate appetite and allow to regulate the biological clocks.

The thing about UV lights is mostly that most leopard geckos won't bask under them...so if they don't do that they aren't getting any benefit from them. Also, they're very expensive bulbs, and I honestly don't think its worth the money to go out and buy one for an animal that has no need for it. One other thing...UVA doesn't aid in D3 synthesis (actually I'm not quite sure what UVA does that's beneficial...lol) so if you're going to use a UV bulb it should be one with UVB...which are quite expensive.

The UV-B bulb I use is a flouresent tube. As the round incandescent bulbs that claim to be UV are probably not. It illuminates the entire cage, so I really think it goes everywhere. IT is essential for turtles and many lizards. Today the vet said most people don't use them, but you should think about using one. I said "I already do".
