Basking Area

kelly1220 Mar 30, 2004 04:49 PM

I've had a turtle for about 4 years now, and I'm upgrading her tank. She is about 5inches and I need a basking area that would hold her....any suggestions?? I remember when I first got her, I bought some cheap basking area that sucioned cupped to the wall of the tank. Well, when she got bigger, she would weigh it down so it wouldn't keep her dry. I need one that will be big enough space wise and to hold her fat butt!!

-Thanks-

I use a turtle dock that I got from Big Als Online. It is similar to what you described in that it suction cups to the side, but it has holes that long poles go through and allow it to float up and down on top of the water (as water evaporates).

I really like it and they do have large sizes.

I think this is what the other poster is referring to: Turtle Dock

I just bought mine today, and it is great!

I have 2 basking spots, one is a piece of driftwood, the other I made by attaching a piece of plastic screen to the center brace of my 120 gallon aquarium. There is a piece of 1x4 under the brace and then screws hold the screen to the board, its not actually attached to the brace. I can slide it front to back. I let the plastic screen hang down in the water enough to let turtles get a grip.
