Help: Excess Salivation

beljam1 Mar 30, 2004 06:06 PM

I just noticed my female ammy with her mouth slightly open and her throat moving as if she is drinking water. I just fed her about an hour ago but she still seems to be producing alot of saliva. Could this be upper respiratory? Does increasing temps help to eliminate this problem? She is gravid and I dont want to take a chance with her. Thanks, Chris.

I have seen this behavior before and usually it is nothing to get alarmed about. In the past, it winds up being a tooth coming in or growing in wrong that causes their mouth to gape open a little bit and then the drool comes. If it does not clear up in about a week, look in her mouth and make sure there is no swelling. Most the time, these things will be corrected without the keeper having to freak out and start antibiotic treatment.......Johnson Herp

Thanks for the reply. She did clear up after a day or so. I will keep a close eye on her for awhile. When I figure out how to post pics I will put some up. Thanks again.
