Crested geckos and tank size questions!

InsideOutsider13 Mar 30, 2004 06:11 PM

Hey, I have some pretty simple questions for those breeders and what not out there. My main question is, would I be able to have three or only two cresties in a twenty gallon high? Many different websites said two and then others said a trio and I even checked about ten or so sites. My other questions have to do with breeding the geckos and then hatching the eggs. Other arboreal geckos like tokays lay sticky eggs that stick to the side of the glass or moist hides, do cresties lay the eggs on the floor of the moist hide or stuck to the side? If they are stuck to the side, how do you remove them? Thanks for any information that you give!

Hello,

20 gallon tank should be a minimum.

As for the eggs, they are non-gluers. Depending on your ''floor'' type the crested will lay there eggs on the floor( they will dry fast ) or dig a little under ground.

The best would be to use a small ''nest box''. I use a 4' X 4' plastic tupperware with moist peat moss. One or two days before laying her eggs, the female will go in the next box as if she were on a misson to find the best laying site, that ends up being the tupperware ...

Alright, thanks. You mean a minimum for trio, right?

A minimum if well planted and there's lots of hiding place ...

If you can, I would put them in someting bigger

How many crested geckos would I be able to house inside of a 29 gallon aquarium? I had my white's tree frog in it, but because I will not be able to get another, I put him into the 20 gallon which is perfect for one. So now the 29 gallon is open with fresh eco earth substrate (coconut fibers) and I am just curious about how many I could get to put into it. Is a trio good for this or could I even have four comfortably?
