Humid Hides

Sypha Mar 30, 2004 09:03 PM

Does anyone have a good suggestion for maintaining the moisture inside a leo's humid hide for a longer period of time. Seem after I get home from work, the hide is mostly dry, save one spot off to the corner farthest from the light source. The hole I have for the geckos to enter is just larger than the fattest part of the geckos, and I use vermiculite as the medium.

Does anyone have a more successful plan of attack in this situation. By the look of it, I'd say the humid hide dries up in just a few hours. The light source is not over it, but a few inches away from it pointing straight down at the substrate and the few pieces of rock and furnishings there.

Sorry - Don't have a picture.

For my humid hide i use paper towels, they stay moist for around 3-5 days for me. My humid hide is probably different from others though. I have a circular tupperware lid with a piece of cardboard resting on rocks on the top of it.

About the other specs you offered... What do you mean by cardboard over the rocks. Do you have rocks inside the humid hide, or just on the bottom of the cage? Also, where is your heat source in relation to the humid hide?

Thanks for replying to my post.

I'll explain it better here.

-i have a round tupperware container lid filled with wet/moist paper towels.
-it is located in the hot corner of my tank (under heat lamp)
-there are 2 rocks on the cage floor touching the humid hide
-there is a piece of cardboard on top of the rocks

i did that so while in shed it could stay in the humid hide and rub on somethiing.
