Life Span of Panthers

stevie16 Mar 30, 2004 09:05 PM

What is the general life span of panthers. I have some books that say they only live two years and some that say eight. Are any of these true? What is the normal life span?

I have been doing a ton of researching on panther's, and with proper care panthers can live upto 7 years. If females have alot of offspring, they will die sooner. Its better to feed your females less when they are pregnant, because there food intake affects the amount of offspring. The less offspring, the less negative affects on your female. As for males, sex does not negitively affect them.

ps. heres a pic of my new panther "seppi". he is 4 months and an ambanja.

It all depends on the care they are given. Our original Male Ambanja Panther was estimated at about 6 or 7 years old when we received him from the wild of Madagascar. He was an enormous impressive animal at close to 19 inches total length but his body was very stout. He lived for an additional almost 7 years with us after that before he died of old age. Now I don't think there will be too many panthers that will have that of a long lifespan but other than him the average that I have seen from myself and other breeders has seemed to be about 7-8 years.
