I got a light!

anemone Mar 30, 2004 09:45 PM

I went ahead and got the light today. I got the ExoTerra 8.0(No ReptiSun around here) one and it's 15Watts. That fine? The only thing is is the fixture thingy holding it is longer than the cages top.. it'll be fine when I change him to a big cage when he grows, but this should be fine for now right? He didn't eat yesterday, but drank tons. It scared me, but today he was eatting up a storm! He wouldn't go for the crickets again, but he had like 20 fruit flies! Well, thanks to those who all questions my need of help questions.. =) I'm enjoying my new cham, I'll keep posting though. BTW I named him Million. =P

yes, that will be fine. you need to replace the bulb every 6 months, and make sure you are using supplements. you can find cheap internet deals on pinheads. 11$ for 1000 shipped to your house. have the light on for 12-14 hours and the heat lamp on always. i live in buffalo, so if you live in a warmer area, maybe you dont need to keep the heat on. THe cage should have a basking spot of around 90, and a cool spot of around 70. The temperature should be gradient throughout making it differn temperatures, so your cham can choose his own temperature for that mood. Make sure to closly watch him. I lost a 1 month Veiled about 2 years ago. he was no bigger than half my pinkie. I bought another vieled, that i recently lost to MBD. He got that from not properly absorbinghte UVB and the calcium. Make sure to find a local vet specified for chaleon care. Its a littel costly, but its terrible to loose a cham. Here is a picure of "pete, my veiled that i just lost. I love this pic becasue he was so violent. Veileds are usually very aggresive. If you handle him when he a little older, around 3 months, he will more likely let you hold him when he gets older, at least thats what ive found.
