I have a juvi male blizzard lizard who is in a 10g,with outdoor/indoor carpeting,a waterdish,food dish and the temp is 28-30C.i have a humid hide box that has soil and moss in it.I have a dish of clacium and dust his crickets with vitamins

The problem is that he is eating his normal amount,but is throwing up his mealworms and not pooping as much and his tail is shrinking and you can now see his bones on the base of his tail.

What is wrong with my guy and how do I fix it?Is he impacted

Please help!!!!!!

He could be impacted, or it could very well be parasites. Get him to a vet as soon as possible...if its parasites he should be fairly easy to treat...if its impaction the vet can probably do something about it.

Hi

If it is parasites and they are not treated with medication from the vet., then you gecko will continue to loose weight die. It is hard to hear I know.

Does anyone have any idea how i can get rid of these parisites?(my cage stinks so bad so I know its parisites)

plus keep the tank clean. I'm not an expert on parasites, but you'll proably have to take a fecal sample to the vet to determine what type of parasite it is, and to find the right medication to take care of it.

If you absolutely can't find a reptile vet a regular vet should still be able to do a fecal to determine what parasites they have, and should be able to get you at least the correct dosage of wormer.

what if i dont get the dewormer?I would bring the leo to the vet if i could but my dad says for how much it is worth................its not worth it.In the leo manual it says you just have to bleah out the cage.................is that going to work?

You do have to do that to get rid of any parasites that may be in the cage...I'd also suggest getting your feeders from somewhere else. He won't be able to rid himself of the parasites at this point. As far as the vet...if you can find one that won't charge you for a visit...you should be able to find a rate of about $10-20 for a fecal and less than $20 (it cost a little over that for my 40 lb dog...it would a lot less for an under 100 g leo...lol) for panacur (if it will treat whatever he has)...I don't think that's "not worth it." Tell your dad that...and if it doesn't help, try calling a few vets and telling them your situation...you may even be able to get one to treat him in exchange for you "volunteering" for them for a while. There are some really nice vets out there...seriously see what you can do. A vet I used to work for once said he'd repair a child's kitten's broken leg if the kid really had no way of doing anything for it and his parents refused to pay...seriously try calling around if your dad won't do anything...otherwise (and I know this is really hard to hear...)your leo will probably end up dying a very painful death...

Thats the bad thing.................i live out of the city and i am going to talk to my dad in the morning(i am kinda afraid to ask him about taking my leo to the vet...........he gets really mad)I do have a vet near my house that says he will do reptiles if im very desperate.It would depend on how much it would cost,i payed 80$ Cnadain for my blizzard,so if it cost less then that ill do it.I have like 120 right now,,,,,,,,,so if i have to do it i will.

What should i do though,help the poor guy...............life goes on,and my delima is if he dies after he whent to the vet my dad would be like................see you just could of bought a new one with that money u spent on going to the vet.

My leo still eats though

Please take this as it is meant. I noticed you have quite a few herps. My question is how can you have this many pets and not be able to take one to the vet? You took on a responsibility when you bought this Leo. Here are the 2 things I would do, given your situation. 1) Talk to the vet that lives near you and work out some kind of payment plan. 2) Talk to your father and work out a payment plan. Its not like the poor creature is a toy, when it gets broke you get a new one. It is a living, breathing animal. Rest assured it knows it is sick, that is probably why it keeps eating. These creatures are not stupid and they can usually maintain themselves. If your Leo is not keeping its food down and getting thinner it is aware of the fact and is probably having some stress. Sell something, get your dad to understand, or make a deal, but do it quick before the problem is too far gone for help.

i am a vet tech and i see this every day, people getting so many animals and not having the $ to care for them. often when we gt cases like this with herps i just say "if you dont have the $, ill take your animal" its not the owners responsability anymore but the pet survives.

as for the leo, you will need a dewormer, probably panacure, and for the dose thata leo needs the cost where i work is like $2 american and you need a repeat dose to give depending on the parasite it is. you should also clean the cage out often, try paper towels to keep the claning time and effort down untill you have the parasites under control. a mild bleach and water should clean the cage out. also keep him away from your other animals, many parasites are zoonotic.

it's not going to cost that much so don't worry. actually, you could probably just use the money that you were going to buy that new gecko with for 25 bucks shipping...maybe a little more...i don't know how much the peds cost...but it really shouldn't be that much of a strain. certainly not $120.

how old are you? do you have any friends that will drive you to the vets so you don't have to ask your dad? aunts, uncles, big brothers? your dad lets you have all those herps and then he won't let you take care of them right? something is wrong with that picture...

You shouldn't have bought a leo when you couldn't afford to pay a stinkin vet bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **scowls...** Sorry if this offends anyone...just my two cents-your lucky I'm not in a typing mood.lol...but seriously even the best of breeders have something set aside to pay for it(whether it's a bank account, money jar, etc.) Sorry again if this offends you....Just my thoughts....
