One Last time Humidity?!?

NYCMikey2005 Mar 31, 2004 12:23 AM

I have a Desert cal King and a brooks KingSnake and was wondering whether or not there in shed is it a good idea to just give a mist once or twice a week? i know kings have a tencity to develop breathing probs if there is too much humidity my reaserch has also pointed in the direction that the water from there bowels evaporating is quiet enough all the same, just would like to know for sure from some exp keepers if they advise me to mist every now and then just mabey to keep the snakes really happy? by the way is there a diffrence in humidity levels as opposed to keeping Kings in the rack system or tub then too tank? meaning that i know tanks hold less ? that is why i would like to mist once or twice a week as opp to those who keep there kings in th rack or tub system where it is much easier for those types of enclosures to hold more humidity then my tanks? Appr All replys Mike S. ps ONe desert King ONE Brooks. pps the brooks is nicer colour wise n much prettier eyes but he is older so i feel that he has been imprinted on by the prev owner as well as my desert king was younger when i first purchased him so i have imprinted my manners on too him ! Dude you are overthinking everything and asking way too many questions. You mention "Your research" do I take it that your research consists of asking 100 questions on this forum ? I dont like pounding newbies but when you ask every little question about your Kings and then start repeating them you are gonan get flamed and also ignored no matter how relevant your question may someday be. Get a book like Common Kingsnakes (AVS) by David Perlowin. All your questions can be answred there for the most part.

since I feel like I started these comments the least I can do is give you my experience with my king and humidity. He has a big water bowl (big enough to stuff his whole body in) and is bedded on bark with a screen top on a 20-gal. no misting, no humidifier in the room, just whatever the room's moisture level is, which in the winter is pretty dry. He goes swimming occasionally and knock on wood he has never had so much as a single scale retained in the 4 years I've had him. I hope I didn't just jinx myself!! (he doesnt shed very much now anyway) For my hognose I bought a humidity gauge just because she's so little I was a bit more worried about keeping conditions right, but in her sterilite with a small water dish bedded on aspen, the humidity next to the dish stays pretty high (imagine it's lower on the other end)

Relax and step away from the water bottle. Your not dealing with a Ball Python. Kings are pretty hardy and easy to maintain animals. The humidity in your room combined with a decent sized water bowl for soaking "SHOULD" be fine. If for some reason during shed you find it's not coming all off at once, place some moist spagmum moss under one of the snakes hides. That works wonderful.
