Releasing native newborns

coolhl7 Mar 31, 2004 07:30 AM

OK, I have been guilty of releasing newborn red rats I bred from WC adults and may do the same with any newborn Scarlet Kings if they refuse to eat,,,,what are the pros and cons (concerning native populations)as long as I dont do it on public lands or wildlife refuges?

The biggest con is that you might, at the same time, release an exotic pathogen to which the wild population has no defence. The next would be that in many states releasing such animals is illegal.
