I found this little atrox outside my bedroom door my first morning in Arizona last May. I was still on Eastern time and couldn't sleep so I went outside to see if I had a signal on my cell phone to call home. I was dialing the number when my peripheral vision caught the shape of this little guy. He was right in the path of my next step. It was so cool! I went back inside and got my camera and snapped off a few pictures before calling my wife.
Nikon 990, everything in auto.
Thats a jewel of a snake.

...is this a particular subspecies, or it is just due to the particular light conditions?
It was early in the morning so the light was cooler (more blue)which would change the color on the snake. I don't recall it being a spectacular example of atrox one way or the other.
