Zoo Med Powersun

CokeOfMan Mar 31, 2004 09:11 AM

It says it's range is about six feet. Does that mean I only need a Powersun for UV needs? And also what wattag should I buy? 100 or 160? It is a one-dragon tank.

Thanks In Advance

Yes, you just need a powersun. How big is the tank? The 160 is a very hot bulb, two of them can heat a 350 gallon cage.

Thanks for the reply. The tank hasn't been built yet. But I'm thinking like 5x2x5 LengthxDepthxHeight. That will be fine right?

That should be fine, If you can go 2.5 on the depth that would be better, but that is a nice big cage. You would need at least 2 160 watt powersuns and maybe a third heat source at the bottom of the tank, depending on how well the cage is insulated or what it is made out of.

Just asking to see if I can go for possibly creamic heaters or so?

One is probably fine, sometimes I used a 150 watt heat bulb when a powersun would burn out.

2 160's for a 350 might be overkill. I have one in my 350 and the temperature aproaches 90 quite often. I guess it depends on where you live too though. Here its about 80 inside and in the 90's outside right now. So it all depends.

my tank is 5x5x5. even though the dragons only utilize about 5x3x5, its still nice to have the extra area because who knows what the future holds. in my opinion, if your going through the trouble of building an enclsure (believe me,its a pain, but worth it), build it a bigger than what you expect for the dragons to utlize. this way you can expand your family, put more things in there for them. my extra space is actually going to be used for a bigger pond and more shrubbery....its just nice to have that extra area, this way i dont feel limited i will try to post some pics tonight it...good luck
