Caging question for yellow anaconda.

Crochuntermyhero Jun 12, 2003 09:19 PM

my yellow female is 30-35 inches at the moment ( havent measured her exactly) and she's in a 20 long, i am moving my monitor's to a bigger vision cage and plan to move her into thier old cage which measures 30 inches long, 28 inches deep and 18 inches high, (also a vision) my question is this. How long will this cage be sufficient? at what length should i move her to a bigger cage? i'm not entirely sure of how space dependant they are
any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Actually they are rather "unspace dependent". If you give it a water tub to soak in, count on the snake rarely leaving the water. My yellow is the only snake I have that never tries to find a way out of her cage. Kinda lazy actually .
As for size unless you want to keep buying cages I would suggest you start looking at building one. You could go 4x2 and give it plenty of room to grow into.

I agree with JDP. When they're happy with their environment, they are quite laid-back. Mine like a heated water container that they can just fit into. Every few days, they'll get out and dry off for a couple of days. When mine get hungry, they'll hunt, or stargaze. I let them out when they're hungry, they'll search the house, or sit and stargaze, waving their tongues very slowly and constantly. I feed my adults at 5 to 6 week intervals, so they spend about a week or so looking for food each cycle. That's the only time they're very active, on their own.

They're hungry in this pic, and quite active.
