I have a tank, need help/info on what lizard should live in it

skeletor121 Mar 31, 2004 12:09 PM

I'm not an experienced lizard person, but have experience with fish. I got a sweet deal on a 150 gallon glass tank (5'L*2'W*2'H) that was used for Discus and Angels (didn't get the fish though).
I have discussed with my wife what to do with the tank once it is fully cleaned out (bought it from an older guy who couldn't clean it out, part of why I got a sweet deal). We decided to place lizard(s) in the tank. The only lizards that I know are out are a bearded dragon because she doesn't like them and geckos(other than the aggressive ones).
Below is what I have for requirements, can you guys give me some species to look at? I do not plan on getting any animals until sometime in July and would like to start planning the whole thing.
Thanks for your help.

-Able to be handled: we have 3 girls that I don't want to get chomped on
-Able to live in the tank mentioned above
-Food: doesn't matter
-Bottom: would like something that likes sand, but it is not a requirement
-Do not want a lizard that wants a water in the tank (a terrarium, not an aquarium)
-Something that would do ok with some form of plant life in the tank. I would like to set the tank up with a "natural" feel to it.

Hi, There are so many great lizards, I have alot of different species.

Ruling out bearded dragons, if your wife don't like them, then a couple of my favorites are
the uromastyx, here is a site, fantasic breeder, gorgeous animals, colorful,
and with daily handling can get very tame.

And if you wanted a few, with a tank that size you could go with a trio of collared lizards . Smaller, reach about 12 inches including tail.

Get very friendly with handling, absolutely come in all colors and are wonderful. I have many, and love them. Email me and I will give you my site , with many photos!

I also have and love my Blue tongue skink, but looking snake like, I dont know if your girls would be scared.

Well I wish you luck in your lizard pursuit, let us know what you decided on!
