Corns in racks....

Tigergenesis Mar 31, 2004 06:42 PM

anyone put their corns in racks? If so, what's a minimum rack tub size? I'd love to collect more than one corn, but just don't have the space. I've been thinking of a rack, but I feel a little guilty not giving them more height. Am I just worrying too much?

Thanks!

as you read this there are 1000's and 1000's of corns living in racks with no adverse effects.they don't stand up and hit there head on the ceiling lol! snakes NEED confined places to feel safe.why not build or buy a rack that will house all your snakes?i recently had built a rack that has 41,27 and 12qt. tubs.this arrangement gives a lot of flexability and should work for you.there is a co. (can't think of the name right now)on the west coast that makes a rack with 3 different size tubs in the same rack.hope this helps.racks save space and money, and the animals don't suffer because of it.

I know that what you say is true. Ever know something and just need to hear it? I know breeders use racks a lot with a wide variety of snake species. I just knew I was being a bit overconcerned and needed to hear it.

I currently have a rack that is housing sand boas - but they are burrowing species.

What would be a good tub size for corn adults?

Thanks for the reality check!

LOL

what size??? i guess the general rule of thumb is the length of the tub should be at least half of the length of the snake.i've read that in many books, but i know of many breeders who put longer snakes, say for example a 5 footer in a blanket box (appox. 2 ft. long)with no problems.i'm breeding a 2 year old virgin king this year and she is about 32" long which would be blanket box size, but since i have the room and i want to lessen the chance of egg binding i'm got her in a 41qt. box (34" long).if you ask this question to 10 different breeders you would probaly would get 10 different answers.clear as mud ????
