Cage Plans?

ben_renick Mar 31, 2004 07:56 PM

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for building a cage for a large green? I'm looking to build 2 of these so they would need to be stackable.. I'm looking for something around 8'x30"x2'... I mainly want ideas for what type of material to use... any suggestions? Email me at: blue_note37@hotmail.com or just leave a post

Thank you,
Ben Renick

I would use oak if building a cage. Walnut is a little furry, melamine doesnt do well in high humidity and normal plywood is just out of the question (to few ply's). Just a little idea when stacking, on the bottom of both the cages frame the front and sides with a 1x1. This will allow air movement and provide clearens for your heat pads and wires.

I just had a cage built for me that measures 6'x2'x2'. Its made out of pine. I coated it with a polyurethane enamel. The one thing you'll want to make sure of is that the doors aren't hinged on the top. It's hard enough dealing with a large conda without having to hold the door up with one hand.
I'm still working on a heat source for inside the cage. Currently I'm heating the whole room. I'll probably end up getting a Kane heat pad.
