Timers and Tegus. For the cage builders...

birddog5151 Mar 31, 2004 08:07 PM

When I built my Tegu cage I wired it so the lights were controlled by a timer wired into an electrical box, like a plug in. After lots of time trying to get good information I went with an Intermatic EJ351. It would work right for a couple days and then the times got off. After a little more research I was advised to try an Intermatic SS7C. The EJ351 would not work with the flourscent lighting in the tank.

The SS7C was easy to install and program. I'll let you know how it works out.

I'm not really sure what your timer is, I bought mine for like ten bucks at wallmart and it plugs right into the wall, I also used a splicer and run 3 tanks off it. Seems a lot easier!

My tank is 9 1/2 feet by 3. I wired it like a house with just one cord going to my house plug in. Since My tank is so deep I knew it would be difficult to reach the plug in...so I wired the front of my tank to have two plug ins, a rheostat to control a heat lamp, and a timer to control the flourescent lights. The first timer I tried would not keep good time with the flourescents. The SS7C will. I have, and still, use the plug in timers you mention. I like the built in timer because it gets rid of maze of wire for heat and lights.
