Question about shedding

Sharie Jun 12, 2003 09:58 PM

What is normal shedding for a turtle that is almost 2 inches ? since i've had him (6 months) he's grown quite a lot (from a little under 1' 1/2inches), i think the pet store didnt feed them much and now that he has plenty to eat he has had a growth spurt. He was shedding his skin for awhile but now its stopped. and he has continuely been changing colour, from bright green, to having his yellow stripes on his shell bright and now they are begining to fade a little. Is that normal ? Thanks
share~

What is the temp of your water? The higher the water temp the more your turtle will shed. I keep mine at 72. Also, if your turtle is overfed then this will also contribute to excessive shedding. Finally, it is completely normal for your turtle to loose it's pretty green color (although sad). Because hatchlings are primarily carnivorous they will loose their vibrant colors because of les vegitation in their diet.
