I suggest letting the crickets run free. It's not a bad thing unless you leave more than they can finish off before nighttime. If you feed them less than they can eat in a day (which you should anyways) they won't do any harm. Even if a few are left overnight, make sure they've got something to nibble on and it won't become a problem. It's good to let them hunt anyways. I've never been a fan of bowl feeding.... Kinda just not natural to me (kinda like those rubber wire vines everyone loves). If you're worried about them escaping, try some silkworms, or something bigger that you can handfeed one at a time. Superworms and silkworms are great additions and, at least to me, are more convienent long term than crickets are, even though I use all 3. Give silkworms a shot, silkwormfarm.com has some great starter deals, to give them a try. Then you'll at least know if you like them or not, and it costs very little.
