Sex of hog?

repzoo44 Mar 31, 2004 10:29 PM

I was looking at a shed from my hog earlier and I counted the subcaudal scales and got about 35-37. I checked some books and a website and it looks like it could go either way. Would you be leaning any particular way with that number? Also, the scales were divided, then would be single, then divided, then single. Is that normal? Ive just never noticed that before. Thanks for your help. EP

if im not mistaken...usually males are over 30 and females stay about high twenties...not sure though......post a pic..im sure many of us will be able to tell...include the whole body so we can see the relative comparisoin between the tail and body....and no i never noticed that...but then again ive never really looked closely...ill check for the alternating scale pattern tomorrow when i feed my hog
