Question about terrarium set up

archie23 Mar 31, 2004 10:33 PM

I'm currently building a 6'x2'x3' terrarium with live plants and as 'outback-ish' as possible for my beardies and i was wondering if it was safe to incorporate other types desert climate lizards and creatures to make it more realistic as a natural environment to them.

Archie,

if you think about the land that the beardie is from along with the other fuana, i'd say no. just beardies. i can imagine a noce piece of rock in the middle - back wall, some drift wood and that's about it. beardies like to get "clumsy" and if you planted your viv, it would be destroyed.

i can't tell from the image if those are potted plants or if they are local the the beardie but at any rate paul i didn't mean to offend you. i didn't think anyone would take such offence to what i wrote. so you have any up dated photos that are clear?

No, I was not offended at all, and I could certainly tell you didn't mean any, that wasn't my point at all. I myself am an advocate of naturalistic setups for any species, even beardies/desert types. My only intent was to show, and to let others know, it is possible with the right planning.

I actuall just did a substrate change (250 lbs worth!) and a little rearrangeing so I'll post some newer pics in the next day or so. The plants I do have in there are: Sansevaria (snakeplant)on the far left ground, a Ponytail palm in the wall mounted planter on the left side. A jade plant sits front and center with a "blue carpet" juniper bush behind it. The tree looking plant on the far right is some sort of draciena (sp?) i believe.
Again Deven, please don't think I was offended/defensive, and I'm sorry if that seemed to be my intent.
Paul
