Looking for collaboration

vipergirl Apr 01, 2004 04:06 AM

Hi everybody! I am a biochemist working with snake venoms and live in Germany. I have a collection of viper venoms, some really rare and commercially unavailable. I want to make one or two new projects and am looking for a biochemist/biologist/zoologist/toxicologist who would be interested in international collaboration. Ideally, you would be able to test my venoms for different types of toxicity or can supply me with novel snake venom proteins in sufficient amounts for crystallization and determination of the X-ray structure. The funding is really good so it's worth giving it a try! Any suggestons are welcome!

Try talking to Brian Fry, his website is www.venomdoc.com, and he posts here under the name BGF. He is a leading toxicologist from Australia...

hi,

try contacting dr. stephen mackessey at the university of northern colorado. he's been busier with colubrid venoms lately, but i'm sure he'd entertain the notion of working with hard-to-come-by viper venoms. especially if you have quantities greater than those obtainable from tantilla, trimorphodon, etc (ha ha). check his publications in toxicon, etc to gauge your compatibility. mention my name by way of introduction if you like. i let him milk some of my snakes once.

good luck,

Thanks a lot but I only yesterday sent a proposal for a joint project with Steve Mackessy, he's been in contact with my father for some time now! Please, let him milk some more of your snakes, we will need more material! I want to try all possibilities to get funds, that's why I am looking for more people. If anyone is interested in working in Germany for up to 2 years, I have all the info, and the grants are really good! I will help as much as I can!
