Lester--Texas Horned Lizards and Hibernation

reptoman Apr 01, 2004 08:02 AM

Just thought I'd share with yopu that as of yet the Texas Horned lizards in San Antonio have not come out from hibernation. The Ants have come out as well as whiptail lizards which is what I usually gauge their arrival. Last year I observed my first 3 horned lizards in one day on April 14th. We've had very bueatiful weather for 3 days and the snakes and other lizards are in full swing. I thought I'd share with you. I've moved from southern californai to Castroville Texas which is a town out side of San Antonio, the reptile fauna is very heavy out here. So far I have caught A grey rat snake, 2 or three patch nose snakes, many blind snakes, brown skinks, fence lizards, anoles, alligator lizards, whiptails, garter snakes and all within the last week or two. Many of them I have caught on my own property. Anyway I am closely observing Texas Horned Toads and thought ypou might be interested, will keep you all up to date...........

Thanks Lou. Good to hear from you. I remember that you had said something about heading back to Texas the last time we talked. Keep me posted on the Texas HLs.
