I think my eggs are bad

RedQuake Apr 01, 2004 08:11 AM

Both of my eggs are dented at the top. I added a bit of water to the bedding only to get a bit of mold forming on the eggs and the dents are still there. Is it best to put a moist paper towel over top of the eggs instead of adding water for dents???

They aren't as white as then they were first laid but then again my eyes might be playing tricks on me.....61 hours of work in 4 days with approx. 4 hours of sleep between shifts.....i'm totally exhausted!!! I'm also very sore...i worked my butt off!!! I want to vent so badly, but here isn't the place to do it, i know.......its just that after all that work, taking time away from my family and pets then getting treated like crap, its not worth it. No one but the people here understand my love for my herps and hearing statements about how its stupid angers me so much!
I'm thankful for all of you guys/gals!!!

You can put a damp peper towel over them until they plump back up...for the mold im sure you know this...put athletes foot powder on them..not to much though...there may be to much humidity in the incubator or container their in, do you have a humididty gauge(sp?) in there? the humidity level i think should be in the 80's, im sure they'll be fine..but if they turn a yellowish browm color and mold more...i'd say they were bad

No i don't have a humidity gauge in there yet...was going to pick up a digital thermometer/humidity gauge tomorrow. The humidity could be to high, but if it is, why would the eggs dent if they are still good? They aren't yellow, more like an off white LOL.

Thanks for the info though

my theory as to why they dent when the humidity is too high is..if it is too humid in there they arent able to breathe..almost like a human, of just like when its to dry out we start to feel thirsty..thats partly why the eggs need to be in a moist substrate..to get the little water intake they need, and to keep humidity steady so that its just right...i know comparing eggs to humans is a little...psychotic LOL but thats how i see it...

I'll get the humidity gauge in there asap. I think your explanation was great.....made sence to me anyways. I'lljust have to see what happens...my fingers are crossed and with luck i'll have two healthy hatchlings in May
Thankyou
