I was flipping tin at an old farmstead that I frequently search, and I noticed a door to a root cellar way back on the back of the property. Once I got there to investigate I saw that the door had several LARGE holes in it so who knows what may be down in there! After getting the door open I slowly creeped down the steps waiting for my eyes to adjust to the dark. I didn't see much at first, but then on the far wall I saw what looked like a long linen curtain draped across some shelving. I was sure that, being below the frost line that this may be a good hibernaculum for some of our MO snakes. I made my way over to the shelves on the far side of the wall in order to look under some boards that had long since fallen to the floor. It was then that I realized that the "linen curtain" was actually a snake shed....a VERY large snake shed!! I pulled the skin from the shelf in order to get it into the light and identify it. That's when I heard it!!!! A deffening buzz that could only be a WDB!...A REALLY big WDB! I turned around and saw that it was between me and the only exit. This thing was at least 10 feet long, and very angry! My only chance at getting out was a tiny window about 6 feet of the ground and about 1 foot square. I busted out the glass of the window, and began pulling myself through, only to realize that I still had my back pack on, and I was now stuck in the window fram! I looked back and saw that that huge snake was rapidly closing the distance between us and looked intent on getting to me before I got through that window. I slipped the back pack from my shoulders and tried once again to fit through the samll window, it was then that I felt the full force of the mighty serpent slam into my calf! There was no way that I was going to let this thing pull me back into her lair. I pulled at the window frame with all my might, just as she braced herself and pulled my leg.......just like I'm pulling yours! HA HA
Happy April fools day everyone.....be carefull out there, we don't need anyone getting tagged!
