Swallowing mechanism?

Whenever my DHLs eat 5 or 6 ants in quick succession they start this jaw flapping. It almost looks like they are burping (but I know that's not the case . Is it a swallowing mechanism or could it be some type of reaction to stingers in the tongue or throat?
I remember reading somewhere on the web about a guy actually removing stingers from his HLs tongue or roof of the mouth after
feeding ants. That didn't make sense to me as they eat ants all day long in the wild and must suffer with it naturally.

Anyway, just curious if anyone knows...
