New monitor

civa Apr 01, 2004 10:08 AM

I am currently debating on what type of monitor to purchase. I would like one that is medium sized. Also I would like one that is not incredibly hard to tame down. I was thinking of maybe a Dumeril's monitor. I am open to suggestions and I like the apperance of almost all monitors.

Thanks in advance...

Hi there if you deide to go with an indo species as your first monitor make it easier for yourself by getting some cb now ch but cb captive bred is the way to go when you get your first monitor. My first monitors were ackies and then i got flav argus crosses from frank i had my ackies for 3 yrs before i took the jump to larger monitors. I wanted to get a feel for them first, now that i have a little more experienced i got some indos, i got a pair of cb salvators. Everything i have is cb for a good reason. I just dont think i am ready to deal with wc or ch indos. Before i tackles those i am going to raise my pair of water crosses and see how it goes. Maybe you should contact frank see if he has flav argus crosses. they run about the same as dumerils and are about the same size too. My three crosses are very calm.

hope this helps

I have kept many species of Varanus, but I am very partial to dumerilii. I have had WC & CBB and both thrived in captivity. What makes me like them more is their very docile nature, even the WC's. They get around 4ft, so they're fairly small, and grow at a slow rate. Any questions you may have email me.
