Cool, congrats on finding vernal pools this early. I predict that I have a few weeks to go before I find wood frogs breeding here in NY. I searched already a few days ago to no avail. I heard a bunch of spring peepers though! I could not get close enough to them without wading through a foot of muddy samp though, and on a 50 degree day that would have been too chilly for me!
I observed wood frog eggs/tads/froglets last year. I found that it is much more rewarding to watch them develop outdoors in nature, than to bring them indoors. This is because I have the opportunity to walk back to the pools every few days, as long as I don't mind getting really muddy, and can drag the boyfriend out in the woods for protection against mountain lions.
But if you just take a small clutch to raise indoors, it can be fascinating. Just make sure that you can keep the adult frogs that will result. It's often illegal, and always dangerous, to re-release them once you have kept them in captivity; you could potentially introduce some foreign bacteria into their environment. If you don't want to keep the frogs for the duration of their adult lives, it may just be a better idea to observe them in the wild and photograph them.
