Pet stores in San Francisco, CA

TraceH Apr 01, 2004 12:01 PM

I am getting ready to take a trip out to San Francisco, CA and was wondering if anyone from that area knows of any good exotic pet stores or anything of that like.

It's a little bit of a drive but if you can make it to Berkeley then you should see East Bay Vivarium. You can even take public transportation if you don't have a vehicle. Here's their website so you can check them out:

How far are you willing to travel? I know of a couple of other neat places to visit north of SF but they are all kind of a drive.

I am willing to drive a couple hours. Or maybe take public transportation that far. Do you know any sites of other places?

EBV is by far the best, however, there is also Great Valley Serpentarium which is a snake museum as well as a retail outlet for their breeding projects. GVB is in Lodi, CA, and I think they also have a website. I live up in Sacramento and sometimes we take a Saturday and go to both. They are about and hour to an hour and a half apart.

When will you be here? If it's soon then those two are the best. If you are coming after babies hatch there is another small store in Elk Grove that breeds cornsnakes. They won't have much though until May/June.

My sis and I are going to San Diego in May and I want to check out any real good reptile stores. Anyone know of any? How is that one store called LLLReptile? Is it worth going to up in Oceanside and Escondido. I don't plan on buying an animal but want to check out supplies like the vision cages, etc. In Arizona we don't really have any good reptile supply stores.

You should check out LLL reptile for sure.
They have some quality reptiles.
Dont go to Reptile Haven though!!

actully Reptile Haven is not open to the public or they are closed altogether. LLL is a good store. That is my local store. The help is good, I only had one problem with them but they took care of it. They do have good prices on vision cages (i think) They have alot of reptiles!!!! I have never been to the one in Escondido but I did see it one time when I was LOST! It all depends on where you are going to be. I think Escondido (sp) is easy to get lost in. Lanes turn into one was then two way Its confusing!!! The one in oceanside is right off 1-5 you don't even have to make any turns. Less confusing!!
I would go!

LLL is the biggest reptile vendor at any of the West Coast shows I've been to. They have a lot of supplies and usually a ton of animals. I've heard some things both good and bad about their animals so if you are interested e-mail me. For supplies I think their prices would probably be reasonable for a pet shop.

Also if you make it up to LA while you are here try Prehistoric Pets. While it is probably really pricy it's worth a trip. Look them up on the web. They have this awesome indoor display thing going on. Their huge and they've been around a while but I can imagine the overhead must skyrocket their prices.

I definately want to check out LLL Reptile. Not sure which one we'll be going to. Does anyone use the vision cages and how do you heat/light them?? I have a jungle python that will need a bigger enclosure in the future.
