question about administering Albon

pengulove Apr 01, 2004 01:12 PM

one of my snakes is on albon right now and i'm wondering the best way to adminster it. last night was the first night i gave it to him and i guess i didn't get the syringe far enough into his mouth because some came back out. is this to be excpected or should i put the syringe further into his mouth. i got it at the back, like where his throat starts. i have 5 more times to administer this medicine and i want to make sure that he gets all that he should because i want to make sure he gets better.

any tips as to get it into him better would be great
thanks!

...a canine red rubber urinary catheter, sized appropriately for your snake (ie, don't use a #6 for a juvenile BP, rather a #14). This is attached to the syringe, the lumen of the catheter is filled with the Albon, then "feed" the catheter down the esophagus of the snake. Put a black mark from a marker on the catheter at the length of tubing which corresponds approx where the 'head-end' of the snake's stomach would be BEFORE doing anything else. Have another syringe handy, filled with a few cc's of water, to flush the catheter's contents. This assures delivery of the dose.

This is the basics of delivering an oral dose of drug to a snake.

Good luck!
