Babies/newborn and care

lostkauze Apr 01, 2004 04:05 PM

I was checking my egg dates today, and behold I should be expecting within the week. I am very excited, its my first babies (well except for mealworms, that projects going well too). I have a good idea on the care for hatchling leos, but can someone refresh me with some knowledge? Any help would be really cool. Thanks.

Michael

It's similar to caring for adults with a few difference's. Cluthmates shouldnt be put together for the 1st month to make sure they become established eaters. After the gecko hatches a week later he will shed then be ready for appropriate sized food tiny mealworms, or pinhead crickets. The rest is the same way you care for a adult they need hide boxes, water, proper heat and living conditions. Id suggest a 5gallon tank or large critter carrier to keep them in individually so the space doesnt overwhelm the little guy and cause stress. After a month or they become established then they can be moved back intogether with geckos his size. This is all my opinion and info I picked up on various websites.

Ok. I thought it wasa bit more complicated. Am I correct when I say that the babies won't eat until their first shed, and are born with a sack of sorts that they will use for nutrition until their first shed. Also, I should provide water before that first shed too... right?

This is my first hatchling ever, and want to make sure everything is just right.
