What is this???

In the past few days my baby RES shell has changed dramatically from that of my two other RES hatchlings. From the picture you can see the normal shell, which was how my sick one's looked only a few days ago on the right, and then on the left you can see my sick turtle shell. The only thing I can think of is that lately i've been having a very hard time keeping the water temperature down. During the day it averages 80-82's because the basking light heats the water up. The water is very clear though. Also, I used to feed these hatchlings A LOT, because they used to beg in front by the glass when they saw me, but I stopped doing that after reading about how bad it can be for them. Any help i'd love. Thanks!!!

Hmmm... I have never seen that before. Is he shedding? Are the scutes on the shell loose?

If your basking bulb is heating the water to 82 degrees, its time to get them out of the 5 gallon tank and into something a little larger.

If he is acting normally eating and the shell is still firm then it looks to me like the is just getting ready to shed scutes soon.
