How large a nestbox for laying?

Passport Apr 01, 2004 06:45 PM

My female Brooksi is quite large and in blue for her pre-lay shed. I have a shoebox in with her for a humid hide to help her with shed. She takes up most of it with her body. She likes it OK but if she lays 15 eggs or so how will they all fit into that box? I don't know. Should I give her a larger box? Or does she prefer a snug fit when laying?

I have a few very large females that lay clutches of 16-20 on average. I just use a shoebox without the lid. It's a little messy, but it will give them a little more room to do their thing. Just take their water out after they shed and offer them a drink manually until they lay. Good luck and I hope you get 20 eggs. Keep us posted.

Thanks Mike. She was produced by Dave Boyle several years ago. I'll try to get a pic of one of her yearling offspring....it's one of the BEST looking normal brooksi I've EVER seen.

thats what the wild specimens from the south look like. problem is ,Is that lack of habitat has made them a XTREMLY rare find. but the Natl. Park encompasses their natural habitat so there are prtected habitats.Chris in Miami..............

a big getula could easily use a laybox the size of two shoeboxes.
