Sulcata tortoise table/ substrate for it

Grape Apr 01, 2004 10:48 PM

I am building a 8ft x 16ft enclosure for my 4 sulcatas. I wanted to inquire about substrates. I wanted to use a 50soil/50sand mixture. I was wondering, from those who have used this, how well it wks/ how often it needs to be changed. I was also wondering if I could plant grass in this mixture? Would it be to humid for the tortoises with this substrate? Would the sulcatas eat it to quickly for it to recover? even in an enclosure of this size? Please let me know Thx.

How well does cypress mulch work? Any that work better? Would the humitity be too great using it as a substrate in PART of the enclosure? Please let me know! It just that its a really large enclosure and I wanted to make it as varied as possible.

Thanks,
Grape
