Male or Female Rhino Iguana?

buzzard1 Apr 02, 2004 03:06 AM

Its really killing me to have my rhino for over a week and not name it yet. I have a web page with more pics and I am really wishy washy on the sex. I know its early but if some of you that have a few of these guys could tell me your opion it would be apriciated.

I have had my share of green iguanas back in the day and they always wipped there tales at me. Is it really uncommon for Rhino iguanas to whip? There tails are shorter acording to body size and mine never tried to once.

click on this link to my baby rhino. http://65.75.156.200/

thanks

Have it probed if you want to be sure
Rhinos whip too, mine will also pee like a race horse.

I concur. With this species, at such a young age, Probing is best.

Sincerely,
Brian

Well since it hasnt figured it out yet, maybe my rhino will never figure out how to use that tail as a wepon. But as far as teh peeing thing, I usally hold my rhino above the cage for the first minute, cause I do belive I am scaring the crap out of it . I hope this taming phylosiphy works, my belive my rhino is peeing and pooping n purpose so Ill be disgusted with him and let him go back in the aquarium, I think its a natural deence (I could be wrong). So inturn I dont let go of the rhino after he does his buisness hoping that he will learn that he is pooping for no reason and it will do no good, he/she will get picked up no matter what. This is nothing I read but just instinct and Ill let you knwo if it helps when he gets a little older and tired of using his garbage disposal 4 times a day.

Other then that this lizzard has suck a good personality, never have a I seen a baby so amused (like a mother taking care of there child way) with its owner. When I try to put the iggy back in the aquarium it wont let go of my hand.

I dont think Ill ever get used to all the salt spraying these guys do. 1 day is all it takes for the baby and teh aquarium has white crytals (like snow flakes) stuck to the galss walls. But that is a small price to pay to be lucky enough to get a angel of lizzard with a caring a nice personality. I really am lucky and crazy to love it s much.

thanks for letting me share this wiht you people may be you might understand my relationship with this beutiful creature.

The Young Cyclura tend to put their efforts in fleeing rather than whipping (In our experience).

My tallest crest, and highest horns are on a female. At that age, only the probe reveals all. At 3 months a female will probe 5 mm and a male 12 mm.
Good luck

I took Dozer my rhino to the local (reputable for 15 years) pet store and showed him tyo the owner. He told me the vets in texas use a saline solution to determine the sex. Acording to one of the owners of herpiton he thought my rhino was a male cause of the marks under his legs. He looked ay him for awile and said that the dots on his legs don not develope this fast if he was a female. Iam open to any comments on this.

thanks
chris and my rhino Dozer
