Gravid female brb?? update

dan_binderup Apr 02, 2004 04:17 AM

Hey everyone
Well my female still acts gravid... I think.
she is always on the hot spot, I have only got her to eat one time (one small mouse).
My question is:
I weighed her a couple of month back and at that point she weighed about 1700g. she hasn't really eaten since, and I weighed her again today, and she weighes about 1600g.
What does this means, she hasn't gained anything. should I expect babies or not.
I guess I had hoped she gained a few grams, rather than loosing them.
anyway fell very free to pass one your 2 cents.
if anyone needs to see photos of the the lady, feel free to let my know, and I will email them to you

best regards
Dan Binderup

Dan,
. A little bit of weight loss like you have seen is to be expected. I have had a few non-eating gravid BRBs gain very small amounts of weight but most of them slowly lose a little weight like yours has while gravid. Mine often look like the front half of their body is slowly starving away while the back half gets bigger and bigger. The only weight gain they can have when not eating would be the addition of water to their and their babies bodies. Gravid BRBs do need lots of water as the fatty "egg" tissue goes through glycogenosis in the krebs cycle converting to little baby snake flesh and internal organs which have a higher water content than fat does.
Good luck,
Jeff
