For those that feed the CGD

Finnigan Apr 02, 2004 10:18 AM

Hi all.

How much would you expect a juvie (3-4 month old) crestie to eat? I have no idea if mine are eating enough. Whenever I put a bowl of the CGD in, the next morning there is always a small amount licked out, but it doesn't seem like very much.

Do they eat this in very small amounts, and, if so, can such small quantities provide proper nutrition?

On another note, I have been told that the CGD is lacking in protein. Any truth to this?

Thanks,
Joel

mine will not really eat alot of it. He is 8 weeks old. I don't know if they eat alot mine is my first crested also. I mix a small amount with some peach baby food but he seems to chow on crickets more than the CGD. I just put in a small amount. He will set above his food dish and when the crickets come up to eat the CGD he jumps down off of his branch ands ambushes them in the bowl so he kinda gets a CGD coated cricket. Pretty smart to realize that it is easier to catch the crix when they come to eat.

Why do we treat the world as if we have a spare in the trunk

A crested might not look like it's not eating a lot of the CGD, but they may be getting their fill. I put bowls of gargoyle diet (more protein content than CGD) for my baby cresteds in every night, and sometimes I catch them licking it but I never see how much they eat. But they are fat and very healthy looking, and they leave a good amount of feces around the cage to prove their eating good. So as long as your crested isnt losing weight or looking thin, it may be getting its fill of the diet without leaving much evidence of it. By the way, a lot of people who use the CGD use the gargoyle diet until the gecko is about 6 months old or so, because of the higher protein value. Hope this helped, good luck!
